Casteel’s On A Mission 1st Post

As many of you know we have begun a new adventure and for those who do not, we wanted to get you up to speed on what the Lord is doing in our lives. Never in a our wildest dreams did we ever think the Lord would have us on a missionary journey in different parts of the United States and using the most unlikely circumstances and even people. Our journey began last August 2015 when we sold our house in 4 days after lots of prayer and seeking the Lord! Our “plans” or so we thought, were to buy a small house since both of our girls had gotten married and moved out. Our desire was to be debt free and to have as little overhead as possible so we would be free to do more ministry. Rick and Sheila Cleveland generously opened their home to us in what we thought would be a couple months at the most. Wrong! By January 2016, 4 months later we still had no signs of a house.

We had made a “Dream List” for our personal and ministry life and asked God to open or close doors for us in the next 4 months with June being the deadline. Nothing opened up. And we mean nothing, despite numerous offers on houses were made! Then in April, Scott went to a video production conference in Las Vegas with a good friend who offered his cabin to us in Drummond Island, MI for the summer. This was literally the first open door! We prayed and got confirmation that this was a great opportunity and favor from the Lord! The confirmations we got were interesting. Hebrews 11:8-10 – “It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.  And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in TENTS. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise.  Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God.” We have read that passage numerous times and it has never stuck out like it did during this time. Another passage that jumped out was Psalm 61:1-4

“Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint;lead me to the rock that is higher than I.For you have been my refuge,a strong tower against the foe.I long to dwell in your TENT forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.”

There was that word “tent” again and then we kept seeing articles on “sojourning”, another word that we had heard before but never really gave it a whole lot of thought.

verb
  1. stay somewhere temporarily.
    synonyms: staylive, put up, stop (over), lodgeroomboard;

    “they sojourned in the monastery”

The Lord was impressing upon us that we would be living in temporary dwellings for now and that we would not have a permanent home in this season of our lives. Lots of emotions ran through both of us. We had 2 PODS filled with all of our earthly possessions that needed to be sold and at first it was very hard to see them being taken by strangers for next to nothing. Although things are not important, a lot of them represented different times and occasions in our lives. Being married for almost 23 years we have acquired and the Lord had blessed us richly.  Talking to Kim she had never understood why it was so hard for the rich young man to sell all his possessions, give to the poor, and follow Jesus. Now she has a whole new understanding of how all encompassing that must have felt like. She has always said “things” don’t really matter to her but when she had to sell almost everything, she said it showed the true nature inside of her and it was not real pretty. Kim admitted she did cry at one point after selling most everything and thinking have we made a horrible decision? Selling our house, selling most of our belongings, leaving our grandkids and church family behind? And then our loving God always has a way of coming in and being THE Comforter, He reminded us of the passage Matt 19:29 “And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.”

So now as of June 2016 we are making our way to Drummond Island with one pit stop for a week in Shelby, Ohio. We are helping Scott’s Aunt Pat at Posey D’s her diner in Gallion. Along the way we intend to share the Good News of Jesus and to train believers to do the same in a very simple way.

Please keep us in prayer that we would be fruitful and find and make disciples wherever we go. We literally know no one and we will be starting from scratch, the Four Fields Discipleship Model at https://coopersonamission.com
